Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 first impression

Send Push
Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z Fold7, its newest addition to the foldable lineup. This year’s foldable brings a massive redesign, and upgrades across hardware and software. Whether it’s the 4.2mm thickness or the integration of Galaxy AI, this isn't just another incremental update, its refined offering, addressing key pain points.

Display and Design

The most striking aspect of the Galaxy Z Fold7 is its design. Samsung made it their thinnest foldable smartphone ever. The phone is just 4.2mm when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded, and gets the new Armor FlexHinge that is crafted from Grade 4 Titanium Lattice which Samsung claims contributes to a lesser visible crease – a welcome improvement. The robust Armor Aluminum build and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front.

The displays on the Z Fold7 have also been upgraded. Samsung has expanded both the 6.5-inch edge-to-edge Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover screen and the 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display, offering more expansive canvases for content and multitasking. With 10-bit HDR, a 120Hz refresh rate, and enhanced color/brightness range, visuals are expected to be vibrant and fluid.

Performance and cameras

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold7 packs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy SoC, paired with a generous 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. This combination ensures top-tier performance for everything from demanding games to complex AI tasks.

Photography also sees a major upgrade with a 200MP main camera sensor featuring 2x optical quality zoom, complemented by a 10MP 3x telephoto lens and a 12MP ultrawide camera. Dual 10MP cameras on the inner and outer screens round out a versatile camera system that promises flagship-level imaging.

Battery and software

The Galaxy Z Fold7 puts AI at the forefront with intelligent editing and assistance features. Running on Android 16-based OneUI 8, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is deeply integrated with a suite of AI tools optimised for its large display. Features like Photo Assist empower users to manipulate objects in photos, adjust angles, and fill backgrounds with AI precision.

Samsung says that the enhanced Generative Edit is smarter, with "Suggest Erases" automatically detecting and removing passersby with a tap – a truly practical feature for everyday photos. Audio Eraser has also been upgraded. Beyond editing, features like Circle to Search and Gemini Live promise intuitive ways to interact with information and get assistance directly from the device.

The phone gets a 4,400mAh battery with 25W charging support.

What we think

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 appears to be a highly compelling package. The thinner, lighter design is going to push innovation in the foldable smartphone market, making it far more practical for daily use. Coupled with powerful performance, an upgraded camera system, and a suite of useful AI features, the Z Fold7 seems poised to set a new standard for premium foldable smartphones. The phone starts at $1,999.99 and will be available in Blue Shadow, Jet Black, Silver Shadow, and an online-exclusive Mint colour.
