Wheeler Dealers stars Mike Brewer and Marc Priestley flew to South America to find a classic Volkswagen they have spent "years" trying to trace. Mike, Marc and his production crew found a historic Volkswagen SP2 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with the model featuring in the upcoming series of the classic car restoration show.

The SP2 is a long-nosed, two-door hatchback coupé built by Brazilian engineers between 1972 and 1975. The model is fitted with a 1.7 litre air-cooled engine capable of producing up to 75hp and a top speed of 100mph. Despite the car's incredible visuals, the SP2 never left Brazil, which has left the model with an almost cult-like status among car collectors.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk at the Silverstone Festival, Marc said: "I think that particular episode which you'll see later this year... When we get to the Brazil episode, I think people are going to be blown away. Most people in the world won't know the car we feature in this particular episode.

"It's a car that Mike and I have been chasing after or trying to track down for many, many years and we had to literally go to Brazil to find it. I think it's one of these cars that if it had made it out of Brazil and spread across the world like many others, it would have been one of the world's most loved cars and had a movement behind it but it never did because it never left Brazil."

Mike and Marc visited Brazil as part of production on the second series of Wheeler Dealers: World Tour.

The duo has been photographed all over the globe with episodes put together in locations as diverse as Turkey, Portugal and MexicoWhen asked what his favourite destination was in the new show, Mike was quick to put Brazil at the top of his list.

He said: "It's definitely Brazil. It is party land and just interesting. The cars are interesting, the people are interesting. They share the same sorts of desires and passions as we do about their classic cars.

"They just so happened to have a really special car that nobody knows about that else we've shouted about."
