People across the UK are being urged to sprinkle cinnamon in their homes within days. Next week marks the start of September, which means households will begin to see a rise in an unwelcome visitor.
Spider season in the UK starts in the autumn, from the beginning of September through October. The critters will venture into homes to escape the colder weather. A lot of people will feel uneasy about the presence of spiders in their home, but there are methods to deter them.
As reported by the Mirror, James Higgins, a flooring specialist at Online Carpets, has revealed that cinnamon is an effective way to get rid of spiders from your home. You can sprinkle it around your home or use cinnamon sticks to deter the critters.
James explained: "There are a few scents that spiders dislike - cinnamon, mint, lavender and lemon to name a few. The perfect autumnal scent, spiders dislike the warm spice of cinnamon.
"Cinnamon comes in different forms, so you can either place cinnamon sticks around your home, or alternatively, opt for a scented candle to deter any spiders and give your house a cosy feeling."
Spiders strongly dislike the scent of cinnamon and will avoid areas where it's present. The repellent prevents them from building webs in your home.
People are advised to sprinkle cinnamon or use cinnamon sticks near entry points or corners. These can include doors, windows or any small holes.
James also suggests using lavender or mint to repel spiders. The critters dislike their scent meaning they will avoid areas where they are present.
James continued: "Grab some lavender or mint plants and pot these so they sit around your windowsill - not only will they spruce up the outdoors of your home, but they can stop spiders from making their way inside in the first place."
He added: "Another great way to get rid of spiders is to look for citrus scents. A cheap and easy solution is lemon peels over your windowsills, skirting boards or any shelves to deter spiders.
"Not only does the strong citrus smell keep any spiders away, but it will also leave your kitchen or bathroom smelling fresh."
