Netflix has revealed the titles that will be leaving the streaming service for UK subscribers in October. One of them is a thrilling crime flick that stars two of Britain's most iconic actors. Netflix regularly adds films and TV shows to its catalogue, including classic westerns, smash-hit series, and underrated thrillers. However, this means that content is removed from the streaming service regularly.
In October, many films and shows will disappear from Netflix for UK subscribers. One of them is a film starring Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, released in 2019, which has been praised by fans. The Good Liar, which also stars Russell Tovey and Jim Carter, sees McKellen playing a con man who targets older women by swooning them into romance. In the film, his latest target is a wealthy British widow, played by Mirren. However, facts start to come to life, and the experienced conman soon learns that not all is as it seems.
The Good Liar will leave Netflix on October 11, so fans have a matter of days left to watch it. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Searle, which was published in 2015.
While critics gave mixed reviews of the film when it was released, most praised the acting chops of Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren. Meanwhile, audiences were much kinder, collectively giving it a score of 85% on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
People praised the lead actors' performances as well as the twists the story took. One reviewer wrote: "An outstanding cast and a great story. I had to watch it again in the same week. An unpredictable storyline that is engaging and well-paced. The best movie I have seen in a while."
Another person wrote: "An absolutely enjoyable, eventful, brain-twisting movie with fantastic actors." A third review reads: "Really terrific film. Great acting and thoroughly enjoyable."
However, not all viewers were impressed by The Good Liar. One negative review reads: "Laughably lacking in the plot department. There were too many plot twists, and they were awful, and some were predictable."
The Good Liar is among the many titles leaving Netflix in October. Also dropping off the streaming service are both Sex and the City movies, White Chicks (2004), Clueless (1995), Schindler's List (1995) and Cast Away (2000).
