Lisandro Martinez is poised to return to light training with Manchester United during their pre-season tour in Chicago. The defender suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the clash with Crystal Palace on February 2 and is now progressing through his rehabilitation alongside his team-mates in the United States.
The 27-year-old has been undertaking some individual ball work and outdoor running sessions at the Endeavor Health Performance Center in Chicago, though he remains some way off rejoining full team training. Andre Onana and Joshua Zirkzee are also back working on the grass as they recover from their respective injuries. A well-placed source revealed that Onana, who picked up a hamstring strain during training last month, has been "throwing himself around" in training, albeit in non-contact exercises.
Onana could potentially feature in United's final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9, just eight days before their opening Premier League clash at home to Arsenal.
United have been actively pursuing a new goalkeeper and saw their loan approach for Emiliano Martinez knocked back by Aston Villa earlier this summer.
Zirkzee picked up a minor knock at the beginning of pre-season and was unavailable for United's matches against Leeds United, West Ham United and Bournemouth.
The 24-year-old was hastily brought back from a hamstring problem to feature in the Europa League final loss to Tottenham in Bilbao, but Zirkzee suffered a separate injury a fortnight ago. "I've got a small injury but it shouldn't take too long to recover now," Zirkzee revealed earlier this week.
"I've got great physios working with me every day. It's not a serious problem. It's pre-season so unlike last season where I wanted to push myself to be back for the final, obviously now I just want to be there for the start of the season."
