Severe three-hour delays and 14.5-mile queues have been reported on the M5. The disruption is due to emergency road surface repairs currently underway between Junctions 19 (Portishead) and 18 (Bristol), where three of the four lanes on the Avonmouth Bridge have been closed to allow the works to take place safely.
Drivers are advised to expect significant delays and to consider alternative routes where possible. National Highways has urged motorists to allow extra time for their journeys, as congestion is expected to continue throughout the day.
