An air ambulance has rushed to Edinburgh city centre after emergency services were called to a major incident. Police, fire crews, and paramedics rushed to Constitution Street in the Scottish capital around 1.30pm.
An air ambulance was seen landing at Leith Links shortly afterwards, with locals reporting seeing a helicopter landing at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh just before 3pm. One eyewitness said: "Someone's underneath the tram and they're trying to get them out. I've been here for about 15 minutes," as per The Scotsman.
"I've lived in the area all my life, and there've been tram incidents, but I've never seen anything like this," they added.
The Scottish Ambulance service said one person was transported to hospital. They were taken by road, not by the air ambulance on the scene.
Edinburgh Trams in a post on X: "Trams are part route between Airport and Balfour street due to an incident at the shore tram stop.
They added that ticket acceptance is in place with Lothian Buses "on the number 16 between Newhaven and Balfour Street", and apologised for any inconvenience.
Police said emergency services are on the scene.
A spokesperson said: "Constitution Street is closed at the junction with Queen Charlotte Street in Edinburgh following a report of a concern for person received around 1.35pm on Friday, 7 November.
"Emergency services are in attendance and the public are advised to avoid the area."
The Scottish Ambulance service said: "We received a call at 13:33 to attend an incident on Constitution Street, Edinburgh. We dispatched an ambulance, three special operations response team (SORT), a paramedic response unit (PRU), a critical care paramedic (CCP), and an air ambulance to the scene. We transported one patient to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary."
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has also been approached for comment via email.
