Aryna Sabalenka displayed her true character when she jokingly reprimanded a child for swearing at her following a first round victory at Wimbledon. The 27-year-old secured back-to-back US Open titles on Saturday, defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6 to claim her fourth major tournament win and her second on American soil.
Sabalenka is well-known for her ease in engaging with diverse crowds at tournaments, particularly with the younger generation who view her as an inspiration. So, when a young fan surprised her by swearing at Wimbledon, she playfully told them off - demonstrating her maturity - before describing it as a "fun" encounter.
Speaking to the media at the time, Sabalenka said: "Yeah, he was talking Brazilian-Portuguese, a little cursing stuff. It was because of the video of me cursing in the practice went viral in Brazil. I replied, 'You shouldn't be saying that.' Yeah, it was a fun moment."

In the lead up to Wimbledon, Sabalenka had become a viral sensation after swearing during a practice session; something she has been guilty of in the past. The tennis star has apologised live on television numerous times for using prohibited language during interviews, but it is seldom out of annoyance and more often out of relief following a hard-won victory.
The US Open champion clearly felt the pressure lift after the season's final major tournament, where she finally reaped the rewards of reaching three out of four Grand Slam finals in 2025.
The 27-year-old was defeated in the Australian Open by Madison Keys, surrendering her title at the start of the season with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 loss to the American, who clinched her first Grand Slam victory.

Sabalenka then reached the French Open final shortly afterwards, but once again tasted defeat when Coco Gauff secured her second Grand Slam title at Roland-Garros. The American triumphed 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 on the hard clay courts, as Sabalenka left another major tournament empty-handed.
Anisimova put Sabalenka out in the Wimbledon semi-finals, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to stun the world No. 1 and reach her first-ever Grand Slam final. It seems that the 27-year-old took her frustrating Wimbledon exit and previous 2025 losses to heart as she entered the US Open determined to make a statement.
The tennis star sailed through the early rounds of the major tournament before defeating Marketa Vondrousova and Jessica Pegula in the knockout stages to reach the final. Anisimova overcame her Wimbledon final enemy, Iga Swiatek, and Naomi Osaka to reach the final - but the outcome was all too familiar for the American in the end.
After clinching victory in the showpiece final, Sabalenka expressed her delight at becoming the first woman to retain her US Open crown since Serena Williams did so in 2014.
Addressing the media afterwards, an elated Sabalenka said: "I want to thank everyone who came here, who flew in to be there in my box.
"I'm going to reach a lot more finals and I don't care where you are in the world I want you in my box."
