DWP 178 health conditions that now entitle people to PIP ahead of Labour cuts

Send Push

People with 178 conditions can get Personal Independence Payment to help with their daily needs. This means there are currently 3,744,671 people claiming the aid in the UK.

However this could be set to change amid suspected Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) cuts in the up-coming Autumn Budget. Roger Hallam, global head of rates at Vanguard, has warned the FT "some level of spending cuts are also likely to be required"

Speaking of the potential DWP cuts he said: "The market is concerned around whether the Labour party [is] able to get their MPs aligned with delivering on the fiscal consolidation that is needed to meet their fiscal rules.”

Mark Dowding, chief investment officer at RBC BlueBay Asset Management, added: “Investors have concluded that relying on tax hikes alone to close a fiscal shortfall is destined to end in failure.”

The DWP has issued a statement on the matter, reports Birmingham Live. It said: “This government is determined to deliver a sustainable welfare system that is fair to taxpayers and those who use it.

"Supporting people into good, secure jobs is at the heart of our plans, which is why we are investing a record £3.8bn into helping people into work and giving every young person the chance to earn or learn.” A Treasury spokesperson added: “This government will continue to scrutinise every pound of public spending to ensure it reflects the priorities of the British people.”
