While she never failed to hit the bull’s eye when it came to mesmerising the audience with her impeccable dancing and acting skills, ‘Dhak Dhak Girl’ Madhuri Dixit was at her wits’ end when she tried to cook. In an old interview with Simi Garewal, the ‘Hum Aapke Hai Kaun’ star admitted that although she was determined to be a competent chef for her husband, Dr. Shriram Nene, after she shifted to the US post-marriage, she still whipped up some culinary disasters. She revealed how she had carried a cookbook with her to America to prevent such mishaps, but they still occurred.
She revealed she was not aware that the prawns sold in the US were “pre-made,” so she overcooked them.
“It’s an Indian book that I carried with me, and I made some masala prawns for him,” she said and added, “I kept cooking them. They were so chewy, like rubber, and he ate them. He couldn’t swallow them.”
She also shared a sneak peek at her domestic life with the cardiothoracic surgeon. She revealed she used to get up at 5:30 am in the morning to prepare breakfast for him. After he left, she took a nap.
On October 17, 1999, Madhuri Dixit exchanged vows with Dr. Shriram Nene, a heart and lung specialist residing in Los Angeles. Their wedding was a quiet, intimate affair away from the media glare, followed by a celebratory reception held in Mumbai. At the peak of her stardom in Hindi cinema, Madhuri made the unexpected decision to put her thriving film career on pause and relocate to Colorado, choosing to embrace a new journey focused on marriage and family.
At the time they first met, Dr. Nene had little to no knowledge of Madhuri’s iconic status in the Indian film industry. He wasn’t acquainted with her work or the fame she carried, and he has often expressed that he always saw her as his spouse and life partner rather than a public figure. For him, her celebrity status held no weight—what mattered most was the bond they shared.
Meanwhile, in terms of her professional engagements, Madhuri Dixit most recently appeared on screen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, a horror-comedy film, where she starred alongside actors Kartik Aaryan and Vidya Balan.
