NHAI Recruitment 2025 Last Date Extended: Will you get a government job based on CLAT PG or not? This matter is in the Delhi High Court. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is considering its decision to give jobs based on the CLAT exam. Meanwhile, NHAI has extended the application process for the recruitment of law professionals, i.e., lawyers. Earlier, the last date for application was only till September 10, which has now been extended to September 25.

In fact, NHAI has told the Delhi High Court bench Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela that it can reconsider the decision to make CLAT-PG scores the basis for the recruitment of lawyers. This has been said after a petition was filed against giving government jobs on the basis of CLAT-PG.

What is the matter?

NHAI had recently invited applications for a total of 44 posts of (Legal) Young Professional. Those with a law degree from a recognized university / National Law School / Institute can apply for this recruitment. Also, the CLAT-PG score has been made the basis for the selection of candidates. Let us tell you here that CLAT is a Common Law Admission Test, which is conducted for admission to law degree courses. A lawyer has approached the court objecting to making an entrance test the basis for employment.

What is in the petition regarding NHAI recruitment and CLAT exam?

According to the petition filed by advocate Shannu Bahgel, any score of a candidate in the Common Law Admission Test 2022 (Post Graduate) (CLAT-PG) cannot be made the basis for public employment, as it is conducted only to assess the eligibility of LLB degree holders to obtain a master's degree in law.

It was argued on behalf of the petitioner that, as per the notification of August 11, the purpose of selection is not to obtain a master's degree in law (not for admission), but to provide the services of a legal professional. Therefore, the CLAT-PG score cannot be made the basis for the recruitment of lawyers by NHAI.

The petition also objected to limiting the recruitment to CLAT 2022 only. The petition states, 'Recruitment is limited only to those candidates who appeared in CLAT 2022 and subsequent PG; all other law graduates and practicing lawyers have been sidelined, who are fully eligible for this job.'

The petition further states that there is no correct or logical connection between the objectives to be achieved and the basis for preparing the qualification for such selection by NHAI. According to the petitioner, making only the CLAT PG score the basis of selection is arbitrary and irrational.

Important decision to be taken in the Delhi High Court on September 18?

The Delhi High Court has recorded the arguments of the petitioner's lawyer and the NHAI lawyer. The hearing of this case has been listed for September 18. Now it can be decided on September 18 whether the CLAT-PG score will be made the basis for NHAI recruitment or not. However, eligible candidates can apply through the official website till 25 September 2025.
